Since 1999, SCID has lobbied for the publication of statistics on criminal proceedings, etc., following a death. Our thanks to the SEJD statistical services for taking our comments on board and we are beginning to have a clearer picture of what’s happening.

Statistical Bulletin Criminal Justice Series: CrJ/2006/3: Criminal proceedings in Scottish Courts, 2004/05.

* The statistics dealing with recorded crime and court proceedings are not directly comparable as a person may be proceeded against for more than one crime involving more than one victim and there is a possibility that the crime recorded by the police will be altered in the course of the judicial proceedings. Also a crime may be recorded by the police in one year and proceedings taken in a subsequent year.
