Dear SCID member
Since the last SCID AGM in May 2010, Isobel Brydie has stepped down as chair and I have taken on the role. I am sure that, like me, there are many people who would like to thank Isobel for all the advice and support she has given over the past 25 years to families whose loved ones have been killed or injured in road collisions. Isobel has helped to bring about many positive changes in relation to how road collisions are investigated and prosecuted, and also in relation to how victims’ families are considered by the Police and the Crown and Procurator Fiscal Service. But SCID has not lost Isobel altogether as Isobel has kindly agreed to remain as a spokesperson for SCID when the occasion arises.
For those of you who do not know me, I became aware of SCID in 2003 after my son, Sam, was killed in a road collision. Since then I have found myself getting more involved in SCID and, in recent months, have been working closely with Margaret Dekker who continues to research tirelessly on behalf of SCID. Thank you to everyone who contributes in various ways to the work of SCID and, in so doing, ensures that SCID is able to continue to offer help and support to bereaved families.
You will see from this newsletter that SCID has been active over the past year and we hope as many of you as possible will be able to attend the next AGM in June when Margaret and I will have the opportunity to share with you what has been happening. It is also a time when we can agree the priorities for SCID over the coming year. If you have any queries or suggestions, please do not hesitate to contact either Margaret or me on the numbers below.
Best wishes
Joyce
