The Inspectorate of the
Prosecution Service (IPS)

The IPS was set up about 2 years ago and conducts reviews
on specific areas within the CJS which are of public concern.
The IPS reports directly to the Lord Advocate.

Earlier in 2006 the Inspectorate of Prosecution in Scotland contacted SCID regarding a review it was carrying out on the present arrangements for liaison between the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service and next of kin in death cases, with particular reference to organ retention. SCID met with Inspectors in Glasgow and suggested it would be better to hear first hand from bereaved families.

SCID contacted some families to ask if they would be willing to participate in the review. The majority of families agreed to meet up with the IPS and we would like to thank those families most sincerely for doing so.

The IPS report is in its final stages and families will be sent a copy of the report which will also be available on the website:
